Diamonds Rise To Third In The League As Rockets Turn Into Damp Squib.

(Premier League)
The Newcastle “Sapphire Engineering” Diamonds rode to a solid 17-point win last night at the Newcastle Stadium over a Rye House side who were just finding some good away form in 2009.
The Diamonds’ win placed the Tyneside outfit into third in the current Premier League table with a very real chance of making the top-four play offs for Elite League promotion battle with the bottom team from the upper league.
A dominant opening say the home side 17-7 up after Heat Four which allowed the Rockets’ management to nominate a very early tactical ride for double points with Chris Neath the man on a mission, but a huge error on bend three lost the visiting skipper a place with only four points going his way in a shared 4-4.
28-16 down the Rockets again used a tactical ride in Heat Eight for their guest from Scunthorpe, former Diamond Carl Wilkinson who fell in second place but remounted in front of Trent Leverington who had also fallen and remounted a lap previous in a 3-4 heat result, which was thoroughly negated in the ninth with a solid 5-1 from Jason King and Rene Bach over Linus Sundstrom to take the score to 36-21.
Heat 10 saw a most amazing situation where Kenni Larsen well and truly took his partner Derek Sneddon out into the deep outside, causing himself and Sneddon to end up at the back as his own machine sucked in water and stopped turning a 3-3 into a Rockets’ 1-5 much to Sneddon’s obvious displeasure as the score moved on to 37-26.
Leverington’s uncharacteristically spluttering machine gave up the ghost again in Heat 12 as Joe Haines shot round King to form a 2-4 and drag the Rockets two points closer at 42-33 but a magnificent 5-1 from Mark Lemon and Larsen in the 13 comfortably clinched the match with the progressive score standing at 47-34.
Following the event team manager George English said: “This was nothing short of spectacular to beat Rye House by 17 points and rise to third place in the League. The lads are so keen for success we dare not think where we might end up by the end of the campaign this season. It’s a great time to be with the Diamonds!”
